Takeoff is from a narrow, steep clearing. If the wind is not coming directly from the front (East to Southeast), it can become very turbulent.
Starting Point: The large ski lift parking lot, located between the ski area and the golf course.
Directions: Hike directly up the ski slope to the summit station. Follow the forest path from the parking lot to the second ski slope, then ascend along it, approximately 30 minutes.

The takeoff area is challenging, steep, and narrow. If the wind is not directly from the front, turbulence can be unpredictable.
Voithenberg offers everything a pilot could desire: elevation difference, a large ridge for soaring, and thermals. However, the path to the takeoff is quite strenuous, requiring equipment to be carried up. Only paraglider pilots from the Bayerwald Paragliding Club typically start from Voithenberg. Landing is on the large parking lot near the golf club.
5 km west, there is an ultralight airfield. From Arnschwang, foot-launched ultralight starts are possible, allowing hang gliders to easily gain altitude for a start at Voithenberg.
At the foot of Voithenberg lies the border town of Furth im Wald, known for the Further Drachenstich festival and the busy border crossing to the Czech Republic.
