Description
The Schwammegg and Ober-Atzmännig are not official launch sites, but they offer the unique advantage of allowing launches in multiple directions.
1. Schwammegg-East (1250 m) allows for launches from East to South.
2. Schwammegg-West (1240 m) is suitable for Southwest launches.
3. Ober-Atzmännig (1170 m) is ideal for Northwest launches.
The flying area is located in TMA 2 Dübendorf, which is permanently active with a lower limit of 1700m MSL. This means that the maximum allowed flight altitude of 1700m MSL must be strictly adhered to by hang glider pilots to avoid the risk of the flying area being closed. During weekends and certain times (Sa/Su, MilOff), the Bachtel East glider airspace can be activated by phone. When using the Bachtel East glider airspace, maintaining radio or receiver readiness is mandatory. During the vegetation period, landings are only permitted on mowed meadows or the parking lot.
On weekends, glider airspaces can be activated, allowing flight altitudes up to 2300m MSL.
Procedure:
A) Check status via phone (recorded message) at 043 816 22 99 (or airband radio 120.875 MHz).
B) To activate, call 044 954 12 52 (Speck-Fehraltorf service manager) or 043 816 39 03 (Zurich Tower). In exceptional cases, activation or extension can be obtained via radio from the Zurich Flight Information Center on 124.700 MHz.
C) Entry into the opened glider airspace requires radio readiness on frequency 122.300 MHz.
The Schwammegg launch sites provide access to the thermal area "Ritt," which, with its south-southeast orientation, produces good thermals before noon.
In winter, beautiful flights towards Ricken or Walde with a landing in Oberricken are possible.
In spring, flights towards Egg-Chirnenberg-Altwissstock-Bogmen should be possible with a launch height of 2000m. Slightly less launch height is needed for the over 7 km glide to Uznach (via Köbelberg, Rüeterswil, landing in Burgerriet, 500m south of the train station).
In summer, launching from Schwammegg-East is less recommended due to grazing activities. From Ober-Atzmännig, flights towards Hintergoldigen with landing in Chopfrain (500m west of the valley station) are possible.

In the ravine east of Rotstein (north of the launch sites, north of Hüttenberg), there is a military shooting zone: Cholloch. Be sure to observe the warning signs on the hiking trail at Schwammegg.
