Description
The Schwammegg launch sites in the Atzmännig region of Switzerland offer access to the thermal area known as "Ritt," which faces south-southeast and starts producing good thermals before noon.
In winter, you can enjoy flights towards Ricken or Walde, landing in Oberricken.
In spring, with a launch height of 2000 meters, flights towards Egg-Chirnenberg-Altwissstock-Bogmen are possible. For a slightly lower launch height, there's a 7 km glide to Uznach via Köbelberg and Rüeterswil, landing in Burgerriet, 500 meters south of the train station.
Summer launches from Schwammegg-East are less recommended due to grazing activities. From Ober-Atzmännig, flights are generally limited to a route towards Hintergoldigen, landing in Chopfrain, 500 meters west of the valley station.
The flying area is within TMA 2 Dübendorf, which is permanently active with a lower limit of 1700 meters above sea level. This means that the maximum allowed flight altitude of 1700 meters must be strictly adhered to by hang glider pilots to avoid the closure of the flying area. On weekends and certain times, the Bachtel East gliding area can be activated by phone, allowing flight altitudes up to 2300 meters.
For activation, check the status via phone at 043 816 22 99 or radio at 120.875 MHz. To activate, call 044 954 12 52 or 043 816 39 03. In exceptional cases, activation or extension can be requested via radio at 124.700 MHz. Entry into the activated gliding area requires listening on frequency 122.300 MHz. Be cautious of the military shooting zone "Cholloch" located east of Rotstein, north of the launch sites, and north of Hüttenberg. Pay attention to the warning signs on the hiking trail near Schwammegg.
