Hakuba Norikura Cortina Flight Area offers a majestic view of the Japan North Alps. Located in Hakuba Norikura Highland, Otari-mura, Nagano Prefecture, it is accessible by car (1 hour and 15 minutes from Toyoshina ramp of Nagano Expressway via Route 147/Route 148) or by train (10 minutes by bus from Minami-Otari Station of JR Oito Line). The flying season runs from May through December. The Odari Paraglider School, which has bilingual staff (Japanese/English), operates here. The takeoff site, Satomi, faces SE, S, and SW with a slope terrain. It is situated at an altitude of 1,380m ASL with GPS coordinates 36°46'44.88"N 137°52'23.41"E. The landing site has a capacity of 150m×150m, a slope terrain, and is located at 830m ASL with GPS coordinates N36°46′12.76″ E137°52′58.36″. The site is generally safe with many landing spots as it is situated in a ski area. However, be cautious of wind changes around noon.
Hakuba Happo-one Area provides a panoramic view of the Hakuba mountain range, including Yarigatake (2,903m), Shakushidake (2,812m), and Shiroumadake (2,932m). It is located in Hakuba-mura, Kita-Azumino-gun, Nagano Prefecture. Access is convenient by car (about 1 hour from Toyoshina ramp of Nagano Expressway via Route 147/Route178, about 45 minutes from Nagano ramp/Kohsoku ramp of Johetsu Expressway, and 45 minutes from Itoigawa ramp of Hokuriku Expressway via Route 147) or by train (get off at Hakuba Station of JR Oito Line via Matsumoto Station of JR Chuo/Nishi Line). The flying season is from Golden Week (Apr 29 thru May 5) to late November. The takeoff site, Usagi-daira 109 Takeoff, faces NE to S with a comparatively gentle slope terrain. It is situated at an altitude of 1,400m ASL. The landing site is at 750m ASL with a slightly sloping terrain. It is important to reconfirm the final glide path due to the tourist resort below. Access from the landing to the takeoff is via a ski gondola at JY850. Nearby attractions include the Hakuba ski jump platform, Hakuba-Happo-onsen hot springs, and Happo Alpine Line.
