Description
Tätsch is a paragliding site located on the edge of the High Alps above Realp, Switzerland. It is particularly suitable for cross-country flights, especially for those who want to fly part of the route from Fiesch to Chur without traveling to Fiesch. The site is best used when the snow has melted on the southern slopes.
Access to Tätsch can be achieved by car (for a fee) or by taking a post bus from Andermatt to Tiefenbach, followed by a 40-minute hike. The launch site is not recommended in moderate winds from the west, southwest, or north. Landing is possible in Realp, but be prepared for moderate to strong valley winds from Andermatt during the summer. Tätsch is also a good option in autumn when stability sets in at lower altitudes.
Key considerations:
- Avoid launching in moderate west, southwest, Föhn, and north winds.
- Be aware of high-voltage power lines over Urseren near Hospental.
- Watch out for typical lee-side turbulence.
The launch direction ranges from 112.5° to 157.5°, and the hike to the launch site takes about 10 minutes. The launch area is a flat meadow accessible from Tiefenbach, followed by steep grassy slopes. The site often offers good thermals in the morning and is excellent for thermal flying. It is well-suited for cross-country flights towards Chur, with conditions in summer often comparable to those in Goms. However, inexperienced pilots might find the conditions challenging.
Tätsch is located at the western end of the Urseren valley at the foot of the Furka Pass, on the left bank of the Furkareuss. Realp has historically been one of the most avalanche-prone communities in Switzerland. The area near Realp (Furkapass) is known for reliable updrafts, making it ideal for flying primarily in midsummer.
