Description

At an altitude of 1790 meters, this paragliding site is occasionally used and offers dam soaring on the side opposite the lake starting from wind speeds of 15 km/h. It can also serve as a starting point for some cross-country flights. However, it might become monotonous if you're just flying back and forth. The launch site is very straightforward, and there are landing options below, though not all are easy. Be cautious not to get blown backward, as this will inevitably lead to landing in the lake. Landing on the dam wall is possible. You can lay out your wing on the crown or slope of the dam wall and get ready for takeoff. The natural dam wall of the Göscheneralpsee is excellent for soaring, as demonstrated by Boris S. Häusermann and Andy Busslinger with stunning images in Swiss Glider No. 6 / 2006. The valley wind is almost always reliable, and from around 15 km/h wind speed, you can start gaining altitude. The scenery is fantastic, offering views of the reservoir and the glaciers behind it, as well as the impressive granite walls on either side, which are well-known to sport climbers. Be cautious of the iron posts, which can be hard to see depending on the grass height. Otherwise, you are free to soar along the 540-meter-long dam wall. The best lift is in the middle of the dam wall. Near the rock head with the guesthouse, turbulence can occur depending on wind strength, so it's better to enjoy a cappuccino in this corner and fly with some distance. A special motivation to avoid flying into the lee is the cold reservoir! By slightly braking, you can easily gain 100 meters of altitude in the middle of the dam. Both on the ground and in the air, you can practice, and even wingovers are possible!
