Description
Rauschberg in Ruhpolding, Germany, is a popular site for both hang gliding and paragliding, offering excellent cross-country (XC) opportunities. The mountain is particularly favored for hang gliding XC, but it is also well-suited for paragliding distance flights. The best launch site is located at the summit, but it is not easy to access.
Only use the designated launch sites near the summit. Do not launch from the nature reserve on the south side of Rauschberg.
The south launch site features a narrow and steep metal ramp suitable for both hang gliders and paragliders. Below the official 'South Ramp,' there is a natural launch site for paragliders where two wings can be laid out simultaneously. Forward launches are easily manageable here, with a medium difficulty level.
The area is known for reliable thermals. Access to the summit is facilitated by a cable car, and hang gliders do not need to be short-packed. The north launch site is also available for paragliders. Near the Boider landing zone, there is a practice slope close to the club hut. The terrain is beautiful and flyable in almost any direction. The Rauschberg cable car provides easy access to the summit, and short-packing is not required, even for rigid wings. Guest pilots are warmly welcomed. The elevation difference is approximately 960 meters.
Due to the challenging terrain, a B-license is mandatory for paragliders. Please consult local pilots for advice.
