Description
This small, secluded site is rarely used and has no recorded flight logs. It can be turbulent in strong winds due to trees upwind of the bottom landing area, making it a difficult site to soar. Some even consider it nearly impossible. The challenge lies in gaining enough height above take-off, likely in a thermal, and then pressing forward onto the steep, tree-covered ridge that skirts the Thames. Once flying over Hartslock Wood, you should theoretically experience good dynamic and thermic lift, with a great view of various river craft on the river.
Paul's Grove is open from March to November. Parking is limited at SU 616796. Do not drive up the single-track road; instead, walk for about 5 minutes to the end of it and over a stile onto BBONT/English Nature property. Walk up through the woods to the top of the hill. Do not take off from here. Walk along towards the fence on the east side, then follow the path north until you come to another fence. Once through this, continue up to the top of the hill. Both fence accesses have wire loops; please replace them properly during entrance and exit.
