Conditions Optimales
Description
Located in South Trøndelag, Norway, this paragliding site in Oppdal offers year-round flying with excellent soaring and thermal conditions. The takeoff point is easily accessible, just a 100-200 meter walk from the lift. You can land on a field next to where the lift starts, but during the growing season, you must land next to the road or coordinate with the farmer.
The site features a ski lift/gondola to the takeoff point, providing very good launch conditions just a few meters from the lift. Landing conditions near the lift are generally good but can sometimes be a bit turbulent. During the growing season, it's advisable to land near the main road if possible, ensuring no livestock are grazing there. The parking lot can also be used for landing if it's empty, though it is small and surrounded by buildings and trees, making it a bit challenging.
Be cautious of wave activity (lenticular clouds) that can form with southern winds exceeding 5-6 m/s at 800 hPa. There is a weather station on Storhornet, accessible via YR.no, located 15 km west of Hovden at an altitude of 1550 meters.
Attention: All pilots flying in the area should be aware of Fagerhaug Airport, located approximately 10 km northeast of Oppdal. The airport hosts parachuting, motor, micro, and glider activities. Although the airspace above the airport is uncontrolled, it is advised not to fly in the immediate vicinity of the airport, and landing there is prohibited unless otherwise arranged. Check the airport's website for the activity schedule: http://www.mfl.no/. The airport frequency is 122.95 MHz.
