Description
Height: 240 meters, Length: 18,000 meters
This site in Morocco is frequently visited and offers excellent soaring conditions with some thermal flying opportunities. Pilots can achieve significant heights, up to 1000 meters. The site record is 16.7 km.
You can take off from two official sites: "Le Nid d'Aigle," managed by a Frenchman, and another nearby site managed by an Englishman named Nigel. "Le Nid d'Aigle" features a concrete launch area and accommodations, while Nigel's site has gravel-covered take-off areas and caravans. Both take-offs require a fee of approximately 20 Dh for a day. Finding alternative take-off spots is nearly impossible due to the abundance of cacti in the region.
For landing, it's essential to ask for advice before taking off, as landing spots can vary by season. Generally, you can land on the left next to the track up. Avoid landing in planted fields to maintain good relations with local landowners; there are plenty of barren fields available for landing.
The site is located 15 minutes south of Aglou, next to "Le Nid d'Aigle." Nigel, who owns one of the take-off areas, is known to be friendly but be aware that there are no facilities such as toilets, drinks, or food available on-site.
Weather conditions can be hazardous if the wind is too far south or north. The site can become katabatic as the sun sets, and it can also get thermic, allowing for inland flights. Be cautious of potential sink areas over the cacti near the take-off.
Flight regulations are somewhat lax, as Nigel allows schools and pilots who are not permitted to fly at "Le Nid d'Aigle" to use his site. This has resulted in several accidents, including a fatality. There have also been incidents of pilots missing top landings and causing injuries to tourists.
