Description

Lochranza - Newton Face, Newton Point Wind direction: SW (Face), NW (Point) Height: 200m NOTAM: NR938 503 Driving through Lochranza, take the single track road to the Newton side. Park at the head of the loch (Grid ref: NR937 507). Less than 50m north of this parking spot, you'll find a rough track. Follow this track, noting the grass strip between the golf course and the loch shore, which may serve as your landing strip. After 500m on this track, you will pass a house on your left. Just after the house, you can either cut right and follow a steep path to the top of the hill for takeoff, or continue on the track for another 500m and then take an easier path on the right. The takeoff for Newton Face is located around NR 941 512. This face is suitable for a SW wind and offers a large top landing area. The bottom landing can be on the grass strip beside the parking area or on the golf course. The takeoff for Newton Point is around NR 940 514. A small area at the point works with a NW wind, while the rest of the face is suitable for an N wind. There is a large top landing area and several bottom landing spots on the shore at Grid ref: NR 935 520. Access is generally unrestricted, though occasional heather burning or deer stalking may occur. Note that vehicle access up the track is not permitted; it is accessible only by foot.
