Best Conditions
Description
Elevation: 863 meters, Height Difference: 470 meters. This site is primarily used for soaring and training, with occasional small cross-country flights. The takeoff area is short and features a rocky knob, making it less ideal for beginners.
Flights are typically conducted in North winds, and the site is favored by lower-rated pilots for morning training due to its manageable 5:1 glide ratio and clear visibility of available landing zones. It also works in East to Northeast winds but is very small and better suited for hang gliders.
During weak or mild Santa Ana conditions, most pilots prefer launching from 'Edwards' Bowl due to its favorable conditions when the wind is from the North. The launch area has a steep slope.
