Kronplatz, located in Trentino-Suedtirol, Italy, is a popular paragliding site with an elevation of 2263 meters and a height difference of 1200 meters. It is known for its ease of use and is regularly frequented by paragliders. The site offers good soaring conditions and the possibility for cross-country flights.
The take-off area is conveniently located next to the mountain station. Kronplatz is particularly suitable for flights in northern wind directions, except during Föhn conditions. Despite being on the north side, the plateau generates significant thermals, making it a good spot for flying. There is a large landing area available.
In the evenings, when the wind weakens or shifts to a more northerly component, Kronplatz provides optimal take-off conditions. The site is also popular for skiing, featuring wide and gentle carving slopes.
Kronplatz is especially favored during the winter season. The mountain is somewhat isolated, making direct connections for cross-country flights challenging. However, there are multiple take-off directions available, including south, northeast, and northwest, all easily accessible from the mountain station. There are also other take-off directions, such as southwest and west, which offer good thermals from the basin but are slightly more challenging for take-off and flight. Note that landing options to the south are limited.
For flights, Kronplatz is a winter flying area, suitable for dynamic soaring in weak to moderate northerly winds, even in summer. However, it offers limited opportunities for initiating cross-country flights.
Landing areas include meadow fields at the base of the slope near the valley station of the Kronplatzbahn in Reischach. There is no windsock available. Additional emergency landing fields are also located at the base of the slope.
Be cautious of strong southerly winds, as they can be dangerous.
