Hauptstart Krippenstein, located in Obertraun, Austria, is a popular paragliding site known for its impressive altitude difference of over 1500 meters and stunning panoramic views. This site is frequently used not only for safety training but also for enjoyable soaring, thermal flying, and cross-country (XC) flights, such as valley rounds.

The Krippenstein is a high alpine flying area with rapid weather changes. On thermal days, strong valley winds can develop in the afternoon. It is crucial to monitor wind and weather conditions carefully before launching.
There are no start or landing fees. Access to the site is convenient: drive to the cable car station (approximately 2 km) and then take the Krippenstein cable car (new panoramic gondolas) for sections I and II. More details can be found at: http://www.krippenstein.at
For paragliders, Krippenstein is one of the most impressive flying sites in the Alps, offering thermal and cross-country flight opportunities towards the east (Loser). The site record is 110.9 km.
The site features two different launch places:
1. NE, N, NW: At 2109 meters, on top of the mountain, easy to start, great for ground handling and soaring, 5 minutes hiking from the cableway.
2. E: At 2080 meters, next to the cableway and a hut called 'lodge', rocky terrain.
