Located in the Klosters region of Switzerland, this paragliding site offers a medium difficulty level with an elevation of 2278 meters. The site is frequently used and is known for good cross-country flying potential. However, it is a sensitive area, and pilots are urged to adhere strictly to the rules to maintain a good relationship with the landowners.
The launch site is accessible via a cable car from Klosters to Gotschnagrat, although the cable car may not operate year-round. The launch area itself is a moderately steep, grassy hill. Coordinates for the launch site are 9.84404345, 46.85877957, and it takes about 2 minutes to reach the launch area from the cable car station.
In winter, the Gotschnagrat offers excellent thermals, making it a great spot for thermal flying. Cross-country flights are possible in various directions, except towards the southwest. Popular routes include flying over Silvretta into Montafon or even reaching Inntal or Unterengadin.
The cable car provides quick access to the launch height, and the area offers large, comfortable, and technically simple flights in a stunning alpine landscape. Due to the exposed location of Gotschna, it is essential to keep an eye on the weather.
The north-facing slopes are ideal for soaring, especially in the reliable wind funnel over the approach to the Vereina Tunnel. Thermals can be found even in winter, particularly from March onwards, either over the southern slopes, the forest, or the northern slopes of Klosters.
Spring and summer offer fantastic cross-country opportunities, often via Jakobshorn in all directions except southwest. Day passes are 20 CHF cheaper than those in Davos, and Klosters provides ample après-flight activities.
