Description
The Fronalpstock in Inner Switzerland is a majestic flying mountain with impressive vertical drops and stunning views. It offers relatively easy launch sites for almost any wind direction, but these quickly turn into vertical rock faces after takeoff. Reliable launch techniques are essential for a safe and enjoyable flight.
Access to the summit is convenient via the cable car from Morschach or the funicular from Schlattli. Once at the top, it's worth taking a short detour to the viewing platforms before your flight.

The launch site is located behind the restaurant on the ski slope and is also suitable for winter flights, but only in summer.
Flight:
Flights along the rock walls and then towards Urmiberg near Brunnen (inspect the landing site first), to Morschach, or for experienced pilots, towards Rütli and southwards, offer fantastic views. Despite the rock faces, Fronalpstock is not known for reliable thermals, although they do occasionally work. However, it is very reliable for soaring in Bise conditions.
Difficulty:
The launch areas are spacious enough, but good launch technique is still advisable to ensure a pleasant experience. Training is also conducted here.
Caution:
Weather and winds can change rapidly. Always keep an eye on the sailboats! Never fly in Föhn conditions, not even with a Föhn tendency! There is a 16kV power line near the launch and landing sites; the cables are almost invisible in the evening. When flying back from Lake Lucerne towards Morschach, avoid flying too close to the forest as there is a barely visible line running from the village towards Fronalpstock.
