Description
Starting Point: From the mountain station, hike to the summit of Sassauna. Follow the left ridge to the summit, which takes about 90 minutes on foot.
Difficulty: Easy
Altitude: 2300 m
Hiking Time: 90 minutes
Flight Possibilities: From this location, you can fly towards Arlberg, Innsbruck, Bozen, Liechtenstein, and the Rhine Valley. Notably, on May 1, 2005, pilot Alfredo Studer achieved an extraordinary flight. He flew over Schesaplana into Montafon, through the Paznaun Valley to Landeck, then through the Inn Valley to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, over the Zugspitze, and landed near Tegernsee after 5½ hours, covering a straight-line distance of 174 kilometers.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure for flying is optimal, except for the small cable car. If you have to wait at the valley station, it's best to enjoy a snack on the terrace of Gasthaus Alpina. If you're already at the mountain station and find the thermals still a bit weak, you can enjoy the sun at the Sassauna mountain restaurant and watch the already launched paragliders.
Cable Car: Operates from May to mid-October.
