Description

This site, located within Glasgow Airport airspace, requires strict adherence to regulations. You must read and understand the Letter of Agreement before flying: [Letter of Agreement](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Ez_nr7FR8CXFdP0a7Kk1GbDpLtdwJV1g/view?ths=true). This is crucial due to previous airspace violations and airprox incidents. Low-flying aircraft and helicopters may cross this site en route to the islands. Always coordinate with Glasgow Air Traffic Control to ensure safety. After understanding the rules, fill out the Pilot Approval request and join the Telegram message group: [Pilot Approval Request](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSefurAxiGRaKsuZch6zL8ahNtP1QVXagB-HGoV1lVXiUryE0A/viewform). ) Club: Lanarkshire and Lothian Soaring Club - [Club Sites](https://www.llsclub.co.uk/index.php/sites) - [Fairlie Site](https://www.llsclub.co.uk/index.php/fairlie) Site Owner/Negotiator: LLSC Altitude at Launch: 1000ft Height top to bottom: 1000ft Airspace: GLASGOW CTR National Grid Reference: NS221 534 Wind Direction: West to North West This site offers a beautiful view over Arran and is often good for evening soaring. The best winds are from the W, WNW, and NW. Any southern wind makes it unsuitable. XC potential is severely limited by airspace restrictions and sea breeze. Special Rules: - You must read and understand the NATS agreement. - Use an altimeter set to the current QNH from Glasgow air traffic. - Fly in full VMC and stay within agreed boxes. - The person opening the airspace must close it once all flying has ceased. - Use the Fairlie and Campsie Telegram group for communication. Restricted Areas: - Mind the exclusion zone around the nuclear power station, which rules out the obvious landing field and Portencross Cliffs. Parking Notes: - Park near the gate without obstructing the road. CANP: - Notify other aircraft of activity in this area: [CANP System](https://canp.logans.me.uk/) Launch Notes: - Hang-gliders: Carry up from the road, plenty of space to rig and launch. - Paragliders: Same as hang-gliders. XC Tips: - Due to height restrictions and airspace behind, it's not a good XC site. Possible XC route is to fly SE, leaving the 'box' through the south side. Top Landing Notes: - Hang-gliders: Top landing is possible but beware of rotor and soft, uneven ground. - Paragliders: Can top land anywhere but beware of soft/uneven ground. Bottom Landing Notes: - Hang-gliders: Beach at low tide, mind the exclusion zone. - Paragliders: Same as hang-gliders or near the parking area. Hazards: - No obvious landings between takeoff and beach: trees, wires, etc. Takeoff: - Walk north from the parking spot to the top of the hill. Wind at takeoff will be about double that at the car park. Landing: - Land beside the car park. Directions: - 2km south of Fairlie village, turn east uphill on a minor road (The Moor Road). After driving uphill for approximately 2km, park at the cattle grids. Flight Regulation: - This is a regulated site due to its proximity to class D airspace (Glasgow airport) and the Hunterston Nuclear Power Station (aerial exclusion zone). Sign a copy of the Campsie agreement before flying: [Campsie Agreement](https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/LLSC) Tourism: - Fins Restaurant: [Fence Bay](http://www.fencebay.co.uk)
