Description
Catacol is a paragliding site with a height of 230 meters, suitable for walk&fly and soaring. It is regularly used and offers a good experience for pilots. The site works best with a southwest wind but can also be flown in west or northwest winds.
Parking is available on the shore side of the road near a bench and a large white anchor at grid reference NR 910 496. From there, start up a track to Catacol farm for 50 meters, then cross a stile on your left and follow the path to the top. The take-off point is just below the trig point at grid reference NR 917 498.
The top landing area is good, while the bottom landing is on the shore, which is gravel. Although there are fields available for landing, the landowner prefers that these are avoided if possible. Be aware of occasional deer stalking on this hill. Power lines are present halfway up the hill and through the village, so caution is advised.
After landing, the nearby Catacol Bay Hotel offers food and drinks, including an 'all you can eat buffet'. For more local information, feel free to ask around. All grid references are taken from OS sheet 69 at a scale of 1:50,000. Deer stalking is not usually carried out on a face with the wind blowing up it, but if a stalking party is in the area, a Land Rover type vehicle with an Argo trailer will be parked nearby.
