Description
The paragliding site in Wanfried/Aue, Germany, is a medium-difficult location with a height of 354 meters and a height difference of 175 meters. This site is frequently used and offers good soaring conditions, making it suitable for cross-country flights. The site record is an impressive 249.2 km.
To reach the take-off point, park at the lay-by 600 meters before entering Aue and follow a long left-right winding path through the forest on foot, which takes about 30 minutes.
The take-off area is located in a forest clearing and requires excellent control of your wing. The take-off direction is approximately 340° to 010°. The slope is favorable, but you need to be aware that about 100 meters from the start, you will need to fly over the forest edge, which can be turbulent, especially when the trees are in full leaf. It is advisable to start only when the wind is at least 10 km/h; otherwise, it can be challenging to clear the forest.
The slope extends about 5 km to the west, ending at the Stauffenbühl glider airfield, where glider pilots are welcoming to paragliders. The northwest orientation of the terrain allows for late afternoon starts and the opportunity to climb to the base. You can drive up to the turning area, and from there, it's a 5-minute walk or 300 meters slightly uphill to the 'Auer Blick' barbecue hut.
Landing is at the field path below, which is also a meeting point. The longest flight recorded here is 160 km. Note that there is a restriction to 6 pilots at a time due to nature conservation.
