Conditions Optimales
Description
Alicun, located east of the Sierra de Gador in Spain, offers a unique paragliding experience with an elevation of 1065 meters and a height difference of 650 meters. This site is regularly used and is particularly good for thermal soaring, especially in winter due to the temperature contrast between coastal winds and the cold descending from Sierra Nevada. However, it has limited potential for cross-country flights.
The takeoff is quite peculiar, situated on a mountain ledge with steep slopes both in front and behind. This makes launching challenging without wind due to the limited space for the wing to inflate. In strong winds, the steep slope behind can create turbulent rotors. Top landing here requires precision because of the turbulent wind conditions behind the takeoff area.
The primary landing zone associated with this takeoff is near the Río Andarax.
To reach the site, from Huecija head towards Roquetas. Continue until you see a house with trees on the right. Shortly after, take the path on the right. After a considerable ascent, you will find a fork; take the path that goes to the right.
The views from this site are spectacular, as it is located at the beginning of the Tabernas Desert.
This site is suitable for beginners, and courses can be booked at the local flight school.
