Kite-surf Carcavelos

Level: Intermediate, Expert Type: Ocean Water type: Small wave, Medium wave Water hazards: Currents Water quality: Clean Infos: Big waves in winter from 0-2.5m, in summer some as well. Swell comes from W-SW. Dangerous powerful water flow depending on the time of the day. Beach type & size: Sand - Tidal Infos: Nice sand, large area for kite landing in winter with low tide. Be careful with road proximity. Watch for the fortress as well. Identified hazards: Concrete, Road Weather specificities: Winter very cold, rainy, windy. The best kite spot in winter (better than Guincho). Full wetsuit necessary. Can surf in all seasons. Wind type: Frontal Wind specificities: Only in winter with W to S winds. Onshore winds from 10-30 knots (depends on the clouds coming). In summer no surfing because of offshore strong and instable gusts. Best months: January, February, March, November, December Access description: by Car - Go from Lisbon to Carcavelos by `marginal` road, always by the river/sea. Arriving to Carcavelos you'll see the big beach with a big dirt car parking lot on the opposite side of the road. Go to that parking and go surf. There is a bar called Windsurf Cafe where every rider meets. Specific rules: Time Extra: Kite spot only in winter (not allowed on summer from June to August). Watch out for the rocks at the beach edges! And be careful with strong onshore winds so that you won't go flying to the road with your kite. Accommodations: Toilet, Food, Parking
