Landing place is by the clubhouse (in between the new road). You can also land on the old part of the main road. Yes you fly in the CTR of Heraklion but this is not a problem because the big planes always approach the airport from EAST or WEST.
In summer it is better to fly in the evening because the thermals are not so strong.

The launch area is not well-defined; pilots typically inflate their wings on a path and hope for a good lift. There is another spot higher up, but the wind conditions there are often either too strong or too weak. If conditions are not favorable, it might be better to enjoy a beer on the beach instead.

Babadag 1900 Oludeniz-Upper Launch

Paragliding map of
Take off from Babadag Mountain, one of the highest commercial paragliding take-off sites in the world. Enjoy the incredible sea view and the blue lagoon before landing easily on the lovely golden sands of Oludeniz beach. This site is fantastic for beginners who want to experience paragliding while on their summer holidays. The conditions are usually stable, with some decent thermals that experienced paragliders can make the most of. Flights are frequent, and some cross-country (XC) flying is possible. The region is Fethiye-Ölüdeniz in Turkey. The site record is 82.0 km. In 2012, the surface on launching zones and roads up the mountain was improved. Transport is now provided with closed buses, making the journey much faster than in previous years. This is the last and upper launch you reach on your way up to Babadag Mountain, facing towards the sea and inland. Landing is at the beach. Varipetro Chania

Paragliding map of
rating 3/6

regularly used, soaring, small xc only

Starting: 480m-500m
Preferable Wind: NNE-NNW
Landing alt: 70m
Type of flying: Soaring, thermals

Just above the water park in Varipetro. About 10 min drive from Kato Stalos. The road up to the start is somewhat difficult to find, I don't think I'll try to give an accurate description. Call local pilot Yiannis who is more than happy to guide you. Tel +306944658219. One should be aware that conditions can change very abruptly here, the day's wind usually "sets" between 10 and 12. Most often completely quiet from the morning, and then the wind comes within 5 minutes. Nice thermal site, but don't start too early in the day as the wind can come on suddenly.
