Description
Thousand Steps - California
Thousand Steps features a rocky reef break with both right and left waves, characterized by a sandy bottom interspersed with rocks. The waves are known for being hollow, fast, and powerful, making it suitable for experienced surfers. The spot works well at all tides, with optimal conditions during rising and falling tides.
Located just off Pacific Coast Highway and 8th, access is somewhat hidden but marked by a small sign. A short walk of 5-15 minutes leads to the surf area, where visitors can also explore nearby caves and a private beach. While the beach can be crowded with bodyboarders and skimboarders by mid-morning, weekdays tend to be quieter. Be cautious of localism and rocky terrain, and ensure to wear appropriate footwear for the walk. Parking can be limited, so take any available spot, especially near the abandoned house.
