Best Conditions
Description
At an elevation of 1556 meters, this paragliding site is occasionally used and offers the possibility of small cross-country flights. You can take off directly at the 'Gipfelschmaus' restaurant. The Wildspitz is located above Sattel/Steinerberg, near the Rossberg landslide area. This site is known for its excellent thermal conditions, especially in spring and early summer, and can be reached with a 45-minute hike. A more exciting launch is from Gnipen, about 15 minutes from the restaurant.
Flight:
The best thermals are expected to the right over the forest slopes after takeoff. You can fly towards Seewen/Lauerzersee or head towards Halsegg - Sattel - Morgarten to Aegerisee. If you start from the meadow at the summit in a southwesterly direction, you typically fly towards Zugersee (Goldau, Arth, or further towards Zug).
In case of calm winds at the landing sites but gusty winds at Wildspitz and Gnipen, you should either hike down along the path next to the rockslide towards Goldau/Rufiberg and hope for better wind conditions or start from the Rufiberg launch site. Alternatively, you can descend completely and forgo the flight.
No need to carry food as the Wildspitz guesthouse is available at the summit.
Starting Points:
- From Steinerberg, it takes about two and a half hours to reach the summit. Alternatively, you can drive from Steinerberg to Pt. 1237 (where driving is prohibited beyond this point) and hike for 45 minutes to the summit.
- Start from Sattel train station with several marked routes.
- For an easier option, start from Halsegg.
Directions:
There are several beautiful, well-marked hiking routes to Wildspitz. Two routes are signposted from Sattel:
1. From Sattel train station, head south (behind the station) via Herrenegg, Moos, Lutzi to Obhägkapelle and then to Wildspitz (2.5 hours). Alternatively, from the 'Bauernhof' bus stop, go left at the Ford Garage/'AVIA' gas station and hike up via Halsegg.
2. From Sattel train station, follow the information board (general direction 'Lutzi-Wildspitz') southeast of the station. After about 300 meters, turn right and pass under the railway line. The first part of the route is also marked as 'Rundweg Moos'. The path continues through meadows and offers beautiful views. After crossing a ravine and some forest paths, you reach Obhäg Kapelle. From there, a steep path leads to the summit.
