Description

The Männlichen, located in the Bernese Alps of Switzerland, stands at an elevation of 2343 meters. The launch site is situated at approximately 2230 meters on a flatter ridge west of the summit. To reach the launch site, take the cogwheel train from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen, then the cable car to Männlichen, followed by a 10-minute walk north. The launch direction ranges from 202.5° to 247.5°. The Männlichen offers stunning views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau and serves as a starting point for various outdoor activities, including paragliding. The area is accessible via the Wengen-Männlichen aerial cableway and the Grindelwald-Männlichen gondola, the latter being the longest gondola in the world. In winter, the Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen ski area features over 100 km of pistes serviced by 20 lifts and cable cars. Paragliding from Männlichen allows for both short and extended cross-country flights. Pure glide flights to the valley station or Lauterbrunnen are particularly impressive due to the surrounding peaks. In winter, launches towards the southwest are possible from the steeper west/southwest slopes. For flights towards Lauterbrunnen, alternative landing spots include the valley station in Wengen, the official landing site in Zweilütschinen, or potentially Interlaken, though valley winds can be challenging. Top landing is feasible with westerly winds for experienced pilots. With decent thermals, pilots can gain altitude and fly towards Kleine Scheidegg, the Eiger Glacier, or the Eiger North Face. Grindelwald can also serve as a waypoint or destination. Note the presence of a heliport in Lauterbrunnen operated by Air Glacier (Tel: 033 8 560 560). Flights to Lauterbrunnen must be registered with the heliport. Avoid flying in southeast and south winds due to safety concerns. The area is crisscrossed with numerous lift cables, so caution is required. In winter, a winter airfield for fixed-wing aircraft may be active at Lauberhorn (2180m). For current conditions, check the Männlichen webcam: [Männlichen Livecam](http://www.maennlichen.ch/assistent/livecam/). Soaring conditions are excellent with a Bise wind, offering beautiful soaring opportunities towards Adelboden. However, be cautious when landing at Lenk, as this involves flying through the lee side.
