Paragliding Wengen_Männlichen 2

Located at approximately 2320 meters, this paragliding site is relatively easy to access. It is rarely used when the wind is coming from the southeast. Occasionally, pilots soar along the ridge, but the main takeoff direction is towards the west/southwest. Some cross-country flying is possible. Takeoff Information: - Orientation: East, Southwest - Difficulty: Medium - Elevation: 2340 meters - Cable Car: Yes - Coordinates: 7.93865747, 46.61850296 - Hiking Time: 15 minutes To reach the takeoff point, you can either take the gondola from Grindelwald to Männlichen or the Wengernalpbahn from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen, followed by the cable car to Männlichen. From there, it's a 300-meter, 20-minute walk towards the Männlichen summit. The takeoff area is located roughly midway between the cable car station and the summit. There are two possible takeoff directions: 1. East (towards Grindelwald): The entire Männlichen ridge can be used. The takeoff area has some undulations and hollows. Light thermals can be found at the forest edge near Holenstein. 2. West (towards Lauterbrunnen): Suitable for weak west winds in a flat couloir. In the afternoon, the steep west-facing slope below the takeoff area can experience strong sunlight, leading to potentially strong thermals that may cause turbulence on the takeoff plateau. It is calmer during autumn days. Thermals towards Lauterbrunnen can be accessed directly in front of the takeoff area or along the entire Männlichen ridge. Usage is free, and the local club Jungfrau Tächi manages the site. Suitability: - Normal takeoff time towards Grindelwald: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM. Light thermals start around 10:00 AM. - Normal takeoff time towards Lauterbrunnen: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Thermals start around 1:00 PM. - Generally flyable in all normal weather conditions. Ideal for morning flights and especially good during Bise conditions. Suitable for beginners and large groups. The west-facing direction towards Lauterbrunnen can be very thermic and is recommended only for experienced pilots.
