The launch site is located at an altitude of 1757-1800 meters and is considered easy to use. It is rarely utilized. The cable car operates from mid-May to mid-November, and reservations are necessary.
The terrain east of the mountain station is sufficiently open and steep, making it suitable for takeoff. However, there is no official landing site.
Malans and specifically the Vilan are typically flown over at high altitudes during cross-country flights to and from Fanas. Locally, the area is suitable for pleasant morning or evening flights but is less ideal as a starting point for cross-country flights.
The area is frequently visited by flight schools due to its thermal activity, which is more pronounced in the afternoon or evening. This makes it an ideal spot for recharging before heading back to Fanas. The Vilan is optimally sunlit from midday and serves as a lift during cross-country flights before or after Fanas.

The Älpelibahn, originally a military transport railway, runs from Malans to the Malanser Alp. This small railway, operating on a reservation model, is a good alternative when the railways in Davos, Küblis, and Fanas are not running.
