Malans and specifically the Vilan are typically flown over at high altitudes during cross-country flights to and from Fanas. Locally, the area is suitable for pleasant morning or evening flights but is less ideal as a starting point for cross-country flights.
The area is frequently visited by flight schools due to its thermal activity, which is more pronounced in the afternoon or evening. This makes it an ideal spot for recharging before heading back to Fanas. The Vilan is optimally sunlit from midday and serves as a lift during cross-country flights before or after Fanas.
