Description

The paragliding site at Vagamon is located in the hills of Kolahalamedu, just 4 km (2.5 miles) from Vagamon. This area is part of South India's second-highest peak, Amruthamedu, and features a 10 km long ridge with an elevation difference of 3,000 feet from top to bottom. The site benefits from steady winds coming from the southwest throughout the season, which starts in September and offers excellent flying conditions until January, and again from March to May. Vagamon enjoys a cool climate for most of the year. The site is at an altitude of 1112 meters (3040 feet) above mean sea level, with a wind direction predominantly from the southwest. It offers great opportunities for both cross-country (XC) and ridge soaring. The launch pads are grassy and easily accessible. The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport (COK), which is a three-hour drive away. The nearest railway station is in Kottayam, 65 km away. There are plenty of buses connecting Vagamon with other parts of Kerala. The site is also close to the famous Periyar Tiger Reserve at Thekkady. The area is known for its cool climate, with temperatures ranging between 10 and 23 degrees Celsius. Vagamon is surrounded by three hills: Thangal Hill, Murugan Hill, and Kurisumala, and is characterized by tea estates, grasslands, meadows, mist, and shola forests. For local contacts, you can reach out to Vinil Thomas through [Paragliding Kerala](http://www.paraglidingkerala.com). Vagamon is a beautiful place to visit, not just for paragliding but also for its scenic tea estates and the Kurisumala monastery. The area offers plenty of accommodation options and one restaurant. The rolling green mountains and dynamic conditions make it a nice place to explore, even if the weather can be wet at times.
