Conditions Optimales
Description
Take the cable car from Lungern to Turren (mid-station of the Lungern Schönbühl Bahn). The launch site is a steep, narrow meadow. After takeoff, you need to fly to the right into the lee side, so avoid flying in strong winds.
Hiking time: 10 minutes from the mid-station
Launch direction: 22.5° - 67.5°
Orientation: NE
Difficulty: Difficult
Altitude: 1560 m
Cable car: Yes
Coordinates: 8.12422709, 46.78710875
Lungern is located in the upper part of the canton of Obwalden at 750 meters above sea level, by the lake of the same name and at the foot of the Brünig Pass. It is the highest village in the Sarneraatal, situated in a basin open only to the north and surrounded by steep, wooded slopes and cliffs on the other sides.
The area is a good starting point for beautiful cross-country flights and offers launch opportunities in all four cardinal directions. However, stronger westerly winds require a short hike.
The cable car and chairlift quickly bring skiers and paragliders to the mountain station, and the terrain usually allows for thermal flights even in winter. Please observe no-fly zones.
Flight
The nearly 1300 meters of altitude can be deceiving, as the thermals here often contribute to significantly longer flights. If you can even head towards Interlaken, it gets really exciting.
Difficulty
During military operations, no flights to the west! Pay attention to CTR Meiringen!
You start in the danger area LS-D6 (Axalp), an area with military shooting (3500/1850m)

Overflights must be reported on 135.475 MHz (flight path, altitude).

TMA 4
When flying towards Giswil, Sarnen, you first enter TMA 4 of Buochs (3950/1800m). If you continue towards Lake Sarnen, you enter TMA 2 (3950/700m).
Caution: Several telephone cables at the smaller landing site near the lake. This site is shielded by trees and houses on the mountain side (rotors in stronger winds) and a telephone line runs diagonally across the site on the valley side. If you know it, no problem, but it can be easily overlooked from the air. This site is suitable for strong valley winds. Since the site is next to the valley station, take a look!
Larger landing site: This site is simple and obstacle-free. It is also suitable for strong mountain winds. Watch out for rotors behind the trees in valley winds. The windsock is frayed and hard to see. Take a look!
Cables
Cable car cables: should be visible
Power/telephone cables: especially at the landing site by the lake, be sure to note them!
On the mountain before the landing site by the lake: if flying very low along the trees on the slope, you will see more cables, e.g., near the waterfall (see air obstacle map, Brünig sheet).
Foehn area!
In strong thermals, it is possible to fly in weak foehn conditions, provided the thermals lift the foehn high enough.
Soaring conditions: With good thermals, you can go cross-country in all directions. Northwards to Stanserhorn and Pilatus, southwards to Hasliberg, and westwards to Interlaken.
In Bise (north wind), you can comfortably soar in the Bise direction.
