Conditions Optimales
Description
The launch site is south-facing with a moderate slope. To reach Prada, take the road from Trun to Schlans, continue through Schlans, and use the forest road. A driving permit is required, which can be obtained for a fee of 7 Swiss Francs from a mailbox-like station along the road.
Trun is located in the Vorderrheintal. The highest peaks in the southern part of the municipality are Piz Nadels (2,789 m) and Piz Miezdi (2,741 m). The northwestern point of the municipality is Piz Urlaun, and the northeastern point is Bifertenstock. The famous Zarli and Alois Carigiet brothers lived in this area.
You can drive to Prada for a fee of 7 Swiss Francs, payable directly at the roadside station. However, driving beyond Alp Schlans is no longer permitted due to a strict driving ban. Park your car at the hut before the restricted area and hike up to the launch site. For more details, visit the local club's website: [Surselva Flaigers](http://www.surselva-flaigers.ch/News.asp).
This flying area is quite interesting, especially in summer. It is located directly on the Flims-Fiesch route. If you want to familiarize yourself with this route, a visit to this flying area is recommended.
There are various launch sites in the area, all south-facing with moderate to steep slopes. Occasionally, training sessions are held here, indicating the area's thermal activity. Many pilots gain altitude over Trun along the Flims-Fiesch route.
Flight:
After launching, pilots typically try to connect with the Flims-Fiesch route. Otherwise, they glide down into the valley and find a landing spot near Trun. There is no official landing site, so aim to land on paths or mowed meadows. Be mindful of wildlife protection zones.
Valley winds are generally not problematic, although they can reach speeds of 30 km/h in summer. However, be cautious as thermal activity can cause turbulence. Avoid flying during Föhn conditions or strong north winds.
Pay attention to the air route over Disentis, with a lower limit of 3,950 m. Do not enter this airspace.
For wildlife protection zones, check the latest information. Maintain a minimum distance of 300m from Piz Ner, Val Frisal, and Frisal.
Starting Point:
From Caltgadira, you can reach one of the launch sites with a 1-2 hour hike. Directions: Drive from Campliun to Caltgadira/Trun, then hike to the Platta Cotschna launch site. The launch site is a moderately steep grassy hill.
Launch altitude is either around 1,500m (lower site) or, after a two-hour hike, 2,160m.
Soaring Conditions:
Soaring is possible on the slopes of Trun with a light south wind. However, heed the warnings mentioned in the special notes.
