Description

This paragliding site, situated at an altitude of 1900-2050 meters, is occasionally used and offers good cross-country (XC) potential. To reach the site, take a postbus to Schlans and then proceed with a hike & fly. Be mindful of wildlife protection zones. The launch site faces south, with a medium to steep slope, and is partially rocky. You can reach the Alp via the road to Schlans. Continue through Schlans and use the forest road. A driving permit is required, which can be obtained for a fee of 7 Swiss Francs from a mailbox-like station along the road. Trun is located in the Vorderrheintal. The highest peaks in the southern part of the municipality are Piz Nadels (2,789 m) and Piz Miezdi (2,741 m). The northwesternmost point is Piz Urlaun, and the northeasternmost point is Bifertenstock. The famous Carigiet brothers, Zarli and Alois, lived in this area. You can drive to Prada for a fee of 7 Swiss Francs, payable at a mailbox-like station along the road. However, driving beyond Alp Schlans is no longer permitted. Park your car at the hut before the driving ban and hike up to the launch site. For more details, visit the local club's website: [Surselva Flaigers](http://www.surselva-flaigers.ch/News.asp). This flying area is quite interesting, especially in the summer. It is located directly on the Flims-Fiesch racing route. If you want to familiarize yourself with this route, a visit to this flying area is recommended. There are various launch sites in the area, all facing south with medium to steep slopes. The area is occasionally used for training, and its thermal activity is evident from an analysis of flights along the Flims-Fiesch route, where many pilots gain altitude over Trun. After launching, pilots typically try to connect with the Flims-Fiesch racing route. Otherwise, they glide down into the valley and look for a landing spot near Trun. Since there is no official landing site, aim to land on paths or mowed meadows. Pay attention to wildlife protection zones. Valley winds are generally not problematic, although they can reach speeds of 30 km/h in the summer. However, be cautious as these winds can be turbulent due to thermal activity. Avoid flying during Föhn conditions, as well as strong north winds. Be aware of the air route over Disentis, with a lower limit of 3950 meters. Do not fly into this airspace. For wildlife protection zones, please check the latest information. Maintain a minimum distance of 300 meters from the terrain at Piz Ner, Val Frisal, and Frisal. Starting point: From Caltgadira, you can reach one of the launch sites with a 1-2 hour hike. Directions: Drive from Campliun to Caltgadira/Trun, then hike to the Platta Cotschna launch site. The launch site is a moderately steep, hilly meadow. The launch height is either about 1500 meters (lower) or, after a two-hour hike, 2160 meters. Soaring conditions: Light south winds allow for soaring on the slopes of Trun. However, heed the warnings under special conditions.
