The site is well-organized, and pilots are advised to "blow your whistle" to signal their presence. Before flying, it's crucial to be aware of the no-go and no-landing zones.

Several types of aircraft share the cliffs of Torrey Pines, so proficiency is required to ensure safety. Paragliders need a P3 rating with 50 hours of experience, and hang gliders need an H4 rating. RC pilots must be AMA members and get checked out by the Torrey Pines Gulls.
All pilots must check in with the front office before setting up in the launch area. The check-in procedure includes:
- Providing current USHPA rating or AMA membership.
- Logging information for P3 pilots.
- Filling out a Legal Waiver (10 minutes).
- Completing a Video Waiver (1 minute).
- Watching the Pilot Orientation Video (8 minutes).
- Reviewing the Site Rules.
- Bringing or purchasing a whistle.
- Bringing a 2m radio capable of receiving on frequency 151.505.
- Paying the day fee or providing an annual membership card.
- Signing into the pilot log book.
The take-off area is a large grassy field with a gentle slope.
