Description
The main launch site is frequently used and offers good soaring and thermal soaring conditions. Top landing is normal here. However, cross-country (XC) flying is very limited due to the proximity to Malaga airport's airspace.
Located in the region of Algodonales, Spain, this site has recorded flights of up to 48.4 km and 7.2 km. This site serves as an alternative to Algodonales NW, often experiencing slightly stronger winds. Medium to strong wind soaring can be enjoyable, but it's important to know your limits.
There are multiple launch sites. The primary one is west of the village. To reach it, turn right at the first curve upon entering the village (near the Firestone dealer) and continue uphill along the edge. The launch site is large and easy to use. Landing can be done either at the top or on the large fields at the base of the slope.
The second launch site, east of the village, is less visually appealing as it is located near a landfill at an elevation of 580 meters. However, the mountain rises further behind it, allowing for safer soaring in stronger winds and easier thermal connections. Alternatively, you can hike up the slope and launch from a grassy, rock-free spot.
Teba is particularly suitable for soaring and offers more space along the ridge compared to places like Ronda la Vieja. Cross-country flying is challenging due to the airspace restrictions of Malaga airport. Pilots should avoid climbing higher than approximately 1800 meters MSL in the flight path.
Teba is often flyable when the wind is too weak in 'Poniente'. Follow your nose to find it, as Teba is known for its pig farming and the associated smell.
