Description

Located in Tooele County, Utah, this paragliding site is an ancient sandbar from the dried-up Lake Bonneville. It is primarily a ridge soaring site, offering dynamic evening soaring in medium to strong conditions. The site features a mile-long, north-facing ridge, similar to the South Side at the Point of the Mountain but oriented northward. The consistent airflow from the Great Salt Lake makes it an ideal spot for evening flights. The site is popular among local hang glider pilots, who are protective of this private location. It is crucial to contact local pilots for information and permission to fly here, as it is on private land. The ridge lift is best when the wind is around 15+ mph, allowing for extended soaring sessions. A Meso-west weather station is available at the launch site to check current conditions. This site tends to be more thermally active in the afternoons compared to the Point of the Mountain, making it suitable for flights close to dusk. Pilots can easily stay airborne for over an hour and gain significant altitude, often reaching 400 feet or more above the launch point.
