Description
This paragliding site in Santa Barbara, USA, offers a medium-difficulty launch at an elevation of 908 meters with a height difference of 710 meters. It is frequently used and known for thermal soaring, making cross-country (XC) flights possible.
The launch area is a moderately steep dirt and rock ramp located at about 3500 feet MSL, facing west into a north-south canyon. Power lines are present at the south end of the canyon but are generally not a significant obstacle. The primary landing zones (LZs) are at Parma Park, featuring two upsloped grassy fields. The lower Parma LZ is wider and more forgiving, while the upper Parma LZ is smaller and requires advanced landing skills due to occasional boulders and a more challenging approach.
This site is best flown in winter and spring when the air is unstable, providing optimal soaring conditions. Summer flights can be more challenging due to the marine inversion. XC flights toward Ventura are often possible on good unstable days.
