Best Conditions
Description
Shoreham, located in Victoria, Australia, is a coastal cliff flying site with an elevation of 24 meters above sea level. The site is occasionally used and is best suited for intermediate pilots due to its specific conditions and hazards.
To reach the takeoff point, walk around the cliff point on the right-hand side of the beach. The launch area is around the point and up on the clearer part of the cliff top. It's crucial to get the canopy up cleanly as the launch area is covered in small bushes that can easily snag your lines.
Once airborne, you can achieve a flight path of up to 1 km, with altitudes ranging from 100 to 150 feet above launch, and potentially up to 500 feet above launch. This site is typically flown with a good ESE wind, as the takeoff is quite low and the cliff is not very steep. However, once you are up and flying, the conditions can be quite favorable.
Landing is easiest by flying around the point to Shoreham Beach.
Be aware that this site has a very limited range of flyable conditions. If the wind is strong enough to lift you from the low takeoff, there is a risk of being blown back once you gain altitude.
