Description
Sarangkot, located 2.4 km north of Lakeside, Pokhara, is a renowned paragliding site in Nepal. With an elevation of 1592 meters, it offers excellent conditions for paragliding, a long flying season, and well-maintained take-off sites. A 20-minute jeep ride from Lakeside will bring you to the two purpose-built take-offs. The official radio frequencies are 146.62 MHz and 145.05 MHz.
Sarangkot is within controlled airspace, and it is crucial to respect airspace restrictions to ensure the site's future. Do not cross the lake's midpoint or fly over the town or Lakeside. Paragliders are not allowed to fly before 10:00 a.m. due to the Pokhara-Jomsom flight route.
Permits are required to fly in Pokhara, obtainable from the Pokhara Airport Manager’s office. Pilots need a copy of their license and proof of insurance. The permit costs $50 plus 13% VAT for 15 days, with an additional $25 plus 13% VAT for any extra 15 days. Pilots must have a flying license, insurance, and a minimum APPI Solo Pilot certification (Para Pro III Level). Tandem pilots need a valid tandem license for Nepal and third-party liability insurance for passengers.
Transport to Sarangkot is available via paragliding jeeps that run three times a day, costing Rs 200 per ride. Taxis are also available for Rs 600.
Sarangkot offers scenic flights with views of the Annapurna range and is suitable for cross-country flying. There are three landing sites along Phewa Lake shore: Lakeside Pokhara, Greenwall, and the foot of Sarangkot.
