This site is in tightly restricted airspace due to its proximity to Victoria International Airport. Pilots must refer to the CYA Operating procedures before flying here. The only approved landing option is Burgoyne Bay Provincial Park. Local pilots should be contacted to learn how to activate this space for free-flight.
Hang Gliding:
The Island Soaring Society maintains a tenure at the summit of Bruce Peak, where a hang glider ramp has been in use for over 40 years.
Paragliding:
There are no legitimate paraglider launches on Salt Spring Island. Many landowners in the valley oppose paraglider pilots landing on their farms. Vancouver Island Paragliding has arranged limited access to a single landing field. Launching a paraglider from Bruce Peak without permission is considered trespassing.
Upper Launch:
This launch is officially only for hang gliding. It is an east-facing, thermic site.
