Description
The site at 402 meters in British Columbia, Canada, is regularly used for hike & fly, soaring, and thermal soaring. However, paragliding pilots must obtain special permission to fly here and be aware of designated landing areas. This is not a paragliding-friendly environment due to strict regulations and limited landing options.
The region is under tightly restricted airspace, close to Victoria International Airport. Pilots must refer to the CYA Operating procedures before flying. The Island Soaring Society maintains a hang glider ramp at the summit of Bruce Peak, which has been in use for over 40 years. Burgoyne Bay Provincial Park is the only approved landing option.
There are no legitimate paraglider launches on Salt Spring Island, and many landowners in the valley oppose paraglider pilots landing on their property. Vancouver Island Paragliding has arranged limited access to a single landing field. Without permission to launch from Bruce Peak, you are trespassing.
