Description
Located in Steinfeld, Carinthia, Austria, this paragliding site offers a takeoff height of 1295 meters and a height difference of 620 meters. It's a popular spot for soaring and cross-country flights. The site record is an impressive 55.9 km.
There are two takeoff areas: a large one suitable for both paragliders and hang gliders, and a smaller one that is only suitable for paragliders. The choice of takeoff area depends on the farmer's instructions. If the farmer is not available, use the smaller takeoff area, which can be reached by walking up a dirt road for about 4 minutes until you see a bench on your right.
The landing field is spacious, with several alternative landing areas available if needed.
Flying from Rottenstein is highly recommended. While many pilots head to the nearby Emberger Alm, Rottenstein offers excellent flying conditions without the crowds. Despite the starting area being at 1380 meters, you can achieve significant altitude. For the best thermals, fly to the left immediately after takeoff, but be cautious not to venture too far into the first valley on your left, as it typically has significant sink.
