Conditions Optimales
Description
Pedro Bernardo, located in the Sierra de Gredos, Spain, is a popular paragliding site known for its excellent thermal conditions and cross-country flight potential. The site is situated 125 km west of Madrid and offers stunning views of the Tiétar Valley and Montes de Toledo, earning it the nickname "Balcony of Tiétar."
The main launch sites are:
East Launch: Positioned at 1000 meters above sea level, this launch is spacious with a gentle slope. However, caution is advised due to erosion causing cracks in the ground. This launch was specifically built for the Championship of Spain in 2003.
West Launch: The highest launch at 1250 meters, facing west. It is accessible via a paved road from Pedro Bernardo to the Port of Serranillos, then taking a path towards Mijares.
South Launch: Located at 950 meters, accessible from the same path as the west launch.
Thermal activity is strong in Pedro Bernardo, making it a favored spot for cross-country flights. The area holds a distance record of 206 km, achieved by Borja Rodriguez in 2003. Flights can extend towards Candeleda, Plasencia, and even Albacete or Burgos, depending on wind conditions.
The prevailing wind is southwest, but the site can also accommodate flights in other directions. The region is flyable year-round, with summer offering the best thermal conditions and winter providing opportunities for thermal flights on sunny hillsides.
To reach Pedro Bernardo from Madrid, take the 501 road to the junction signposted Pedro Bernardo, then continue for about 10 minutes on the local road. The landing zone is located just before the intersection, on the left side of the 501, 100 meters before the gas station.
