Description
Panchgani, India, offers a variety of paragliding experiences suitable for novice to intermediate pilots. The flying season runs from November to February, with dynamic lift and thermals making it a pilot-friendly site. The elevation is around 200 meters above sea level.
Key take-off points include Sydney Point, Harrison's Folly, Tableland, and Ravine Slope. Harrison's Folly, named after an eccentric Englishman, is particularly popular for ridge soaring. The ridge has a road to the top and features four main take-offs facing east into the wind. There is also a take-off for South East winds down the road towards Wai.
The site record for distance is 160 km, and the area is known for both soaring and cross-country flying. A standard flight route is to Mahabaleshwar. However, pilots should be cautious about top landing in strong wind conditions, which are common in Panchgani. It is advisable to land near the town of Wai to avoid accidents.
