Parapente Ouen Toro

Ouen Toro, located at the southern tip of Nouméa, is a popular paragliding site known for its scenic views over the lagoon and ocean. The takeoff point is situated on the Ouen Toro hill, which stands 60 meters high. This spot is frequently used, especially for tandem flights with tourists, making it one of the busiest locations on the island. However, due to limited soaring conditions, many pilots do not log their flights here. The site is best flown in the morning or late afternoon when the trade winds (alizé) are not too strong. The dynamic lift is optimal with an east to southeast wind orientation. Pilots must hold a valid license to fly at this location. Landing options include the parking lot by the sea or the small strip of land along the lagoon. Be cautious of the venturi effect created by the trade winds on the grassy, stepped slope facing the parking area. It is also possible to land back at the top, although this can be technically challenging when the winds pick up. To reach the takeoff, park your car at the Côte Blanche parking lot along the Pierre Vernier promenade. From there, it's a 10-minute walk up the path to the takeoff point. Weather conditions can change rapidly, with sea breezes strengthening the wind late in the morning, making the site unflyable. Watch for white caps on the lagoon as an indicator to land immediately.
