Parapente Nüenchamm

The summit meadow is quite bumpy and steep, requiring precise handling. From Filzbach, take the chairlift (http://www.kerenzerbergbahnen.ch/). Then follow the marked hiking trail to Stäfeli (Mittlist Nüen, 20 minutes) or to the summit of Nüenchamm. Filzbach is located on the high plateau of Kerenzerberg above Lake Walen. Nüenchamm, at 1903 meters above sea level, is part of the Heidiland tourist area. The flying area is accessible by post bus and lift. However, the valley wind from Kerenzerberg often blows over the ridge, creating rotors and lee-side turbulence. From the top station of the chairlift, various unofficial launch sites can be reached on foot. The farthest is undoubtedly Nüenchamm. From the top station of the chairlift, you can enjoy a leisurely glide (about 10 minutes) down to the valley. From higher up (Nüenchamm), you can launch southward into the Glarnerland towards Mollis. However, you must be aware of the Mollis control zone at higher altitudes! Nüenchamm and Mulleren are historic sites for paragliding in the Glarus region, where early pilots often struggled to reach the valley with their old gliders. If you take the longer route towards Nüenchamm (details: see GeoInfo), you have various other launch options, such as high above Kerenzerberg, around the altitude where gliders from Mollis circle [Mittelstafel, or further back: Untere Nüen]. The marked trail on the hiking map can be shortened if Nüenchamm is your goal. Difficulty There are power lines to be aware of! If you only want to fly from the top station to Filzbach, you must navigate several high-voltage lines. Vegetation must be carefully considered to avoid significant problems! For soaring, you can comfortably fly around Kerenzerberg or follow the signs from the top station towards Nüenchamm (keep right) and launch around Mittelstafel (NW direction) or Untere Nüen (W direction).
