At an altitude of 1400 meters, this launch site is considered medium-easy and is rarely used. It's recommended to hike a bit higher for better conditions. Cross-country flights are possible from here.

To reach the launch site, take the 'Mattstock' chairlift from Amden to the Niderschlag mountain station. From there, it's a 15-20 minute walk uphill, covering a bit more than 100 meters in elevation, to reach Walau.
Ideal wind conditions are from the southwest to southeast, but not too strong. The launch site is a moderately steep meadow.

The Mattstock mountain rises just behind the launch site, often providing good thermals for a short, scenic flight back to Amden. For those looking for a more adventurous flight, you can gain altitude and fly down to the lake, either westward to Weesen or eastward to the small landing site at Stralegg or Betli. Experienced pilots can take advantage of the Churfirsten racing route.

Flights can range from relaxed valley flights with landings in Amden to more challenging flights to Walensee, weather permitting. Be cautious of unpredictable and rapid wind changes. If you miss the landing zones, you might end up swimming.
A possible route includes flying over the 'Mattstock' to the Churfirsten.
Difficulty: If you start at or slightly above the chairlift mountain station heading west, be aware of a marked transport cable that is directly in the way.
Wind conditions for flights towards Weesen can be challenging. Valley flights require attention to the venturi effect, which can cause turbulence. Local soaring conditions and connection to the Churfirsten racing route are possible. Light bise winds often create nice lee thermals, but sometimes extreme 'yo-yo' effects.
This area is interesting for ambitious pilots and is also suitable for less frequent flyers in autumn and winter.
