During the ski season, Schiltgrat serves as an alternate launch site a few hundred meters higher. Access: From Interlaken, drive up to the Lauterbrunnen valley. Continue driving towards the end of the valley until you reach the Schilthorn cable car's parking area. If arriving by train, switch to a post bus for the final leg to Stechelberg. Mürren is accessible only by hiking or cable car. Residents can purchase a monthly pass (~70 CHF in 2013) for unlimited use from Stechelberg to Mürren, which is worthwhile if planning more than 7-8 flights. The cable car cabins are synchronized, making the transfer quick and efficient. It is only five minutes further than the tennis court but offers a larger margin for error. Light back-wind launches are possible here. In winter, this spot becomes a ski slope. Winter Launch Site - Schiltgrat: Once the ski area opens, Schiltgrat becomes accessible. From Mürren, take the chair lift (a three-minute walk from the Mürren cable car station). The launch is just below the lift's end. The snow is well-prepared, and the spot is reserved for paragliders. It is a few hundred meters higher than Mürren, but you will not arrive significantly higher over the valley. Conditions: On typical days, the valley remains calm, but strong thermal activity can increase the valley wind.
