Conditions Optimales
Description
The launch site at Monte Summano in Italy offers an elevation of 770 meters and is considered easy to access. It is regularly used for walk & fly activities and is known for its soaring conditions, making it a good spot for cross-country (XC) flights. Although not an official site, it is recommended to ask locals for guidance.
The takeoff and landing areas are managed by the local club, Delta Club Vicenza. You can find more information on their website: [Delta Club Vicenza](http://www.asddeltaclubvicenza.it/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2&Itemid=3). For a panoramic view of the launch site, visit [360° view](http://www.asddeltaclubvicenza.it/images/Decolli%20panoramici/DCV.swf).
To reach the site, follow the access road from Garziere, Santorso, towards S. Rocco, and then follow the signs for Monte Summano (18 km). The launch area features a ramp and wind indicators. The terrain consists of grass and rocks, suitable for both hang gliders and paragliders.
The difficulty level is medium, and the site offers panoramic views. Note that flying is prohibited with north winds.
Landing areas for both hang gliders and paragliders are located in Santorso, near the Agip gas station, at an altitude of 180 meters above sea level. Access roads include the Valdastico Highway from Vicenza, exiting at Piovene Rocchette, and following the road to Santorso. Alternatively, take the state road from Vicenza towards Thiene, then Schio, and follow signs to Santorso. The landing area is equipped with a windsock and signage and is visible from the takeoff point, 3.5 km away. There are also several emergency landing options.
The region is popular among hang gliders, paragliders, and gliders due to its excellent thermals. Cross-country flights in various directions are possible, but takeoff is strictly prohibited with north winds.
The small launch site (SO to SW) is easily accessible by car at Malga Summano. Do not enter the fenced alpine area.
This area is known for its excellent thermals, especially from March to April. Classic cross-country routes include trips to Monte Grappa in the east and Monte Pasubio.
