Paragliding Le Suchet

Baulmes, Switzerland offers a versatile paragliding experience at Le Suchet, a Jura peak standing at 1588 meters. This site is regularly used for soaring and cross-country flights, with many take-off options available. The site record is an impressive 140.9 km. Access to the launch site is convenient by car. From Baulmes, drive up to Chalet du Suchet, then walk 10 minutes to the take-off area. For those arriving by train, a taxi from Yverdon station is an option, though it can be expensive. The launch site features large, grassy slopes suitable for take-off in all directions. The coordinates for the launch site are 6.46646373, 46.77249812. The area is known for its reliable thermals almost year-round, except in autumn when conditions are less favorable. For soaring, the northwest side of the mountain is ideal, especially in the late afternoon when the Joran wind often picks up. If the wind is too strong at the summit due to the Venturi effect, alternative take-off points at the col or the beacon are available. Be cautious of the north wind, as it may not provide enough lift to return to Baulmes. Emergency landing sites are available at Grangeneuve or La Combette. The main landing zone is located just before Baulmes on the right side of the road, behind some trees and a small hill.
